Castration

Castration is most commonly performed to treat cancer or reduce the almost certain risk of cancer. The testes produce the male hormone testosterone, which stimulates growth of some cancerous tumors. For example, a man with testicular cancer requires orchiectomy or chemical castration to prolong life. A boy with undescended testicles (retained in his abdomen instead of moving down into his scrotum) is at risk of developing cancer if they are left in place.

The testes of males manufacture the hormone testosterone. Testosterone is the essential hormone for making men look, sound and think like men. When the testes are diseased, damaged or surgically removed the sudden decrease in testosterone production can severely impact on the quality of a man’s life unless testosterone is replaced.

Testosterone deficiency via castration causes dramatic changes in moods, energy levels, feeling of well-being, sleep patterns, muscle strength, muscle mass, fat distribution, sexual desire and sexual performance. Unless supplemented with testosterone a castrated man will wither and become a shell of his former self.

This free booklet below examines castration - the reasons for castration, symptoms resulting from castration and testosterone treatment options for men and much more.
